Just filled up my 2015 Sentra 6-speed manual for the first time, by hand calculations this average is pretty accurate! Coming from 27mpg or so on premium this is a more than welcome change. I’m expecting that once it’s broken in I’ll be getting 38+ MPG commuting (this trip included 100 miles of driving back from buying the car, some 55 mph open road, some traffic) and 42-43 MPG on the highway. Pretty good for a car rated at 27city/36 highway!

I honestly feel that even though the CVT model is rated higher, I’m getting better fuel economy with the manual because you pay far more attention to the traffic conditions ahead of you so that you can control the car accordingly, and that really helps cut down on the acceleration and braking that destroys fuel economy.

Had the car for a week now and it is proving to be exceptionally comfortable, fairly fun with the somewhat light weight and 6-speed, and efficient!

I can only assume it’s for the stillborn 240hp Sentra Nismo

I like speedometers with proportional 0-10 mph. And I also like ones where 80 mph is dead center, since that is the speed I’ll be going most of the time on highways.

But that is an old looking gauge cluster. It looks like it’s from the 90s. Every other 2015 car is filled with lights, colors and digital doodads.

I didn’t know new cars actually had simple gauge clusters anymore. I love it

Damn, that's pretty damn good. I consistently pull down 33 with my Civic and I thought that was pretty good.

It is electroluminescent, but instead of lighting up all sorts of different colors, its greyscaled. I like it, its not distracting and easy to read.

I’m confused I can’t keep up with your cars anymore.

A sweet paid Mercury Marquis

Then a brand new Nissan Versa Note

Both traded in on very nice Ford fusion

Ford Fusion Traded for an older Volvo of some type just a few months later

and now you have a Nissan Sentra?

I know you don’t want to hear it from me but for a guy that was homeless for a short period of time I can’t help but think switching cars this often makes much financial sense.

If I got you all wrong I apologize but from this side of the fence it’s not looking good.

My living situation is much better now, thankfully. My rent, which includes utilities, is now half of what my rent was without utilities before I was homeless (now in a room instead of apartment), my insurance is $150/6 months lower, I also got a raise + permanent full time at my job.

I started my retirement plan/401k with the company, have built my credit score up (I qualified for 0% financing on the Sentra), and decided it was time to settle on a car that would be very cheap to run but I would still enjoy driving. My goal is to continue saving money while I pay off the Sentra and then once I own it, work on getting a house of my own. Hoping to have it paid off after 22 but before I turn 23. That way when I am in the housing market my car will still have plenty of reliable, trouble-free life in it.

If all else fails...I’ve lived in a smaller car. Haha, it has been one hell of a ride.

I couldn’t help but chuckle at this.

As long as let’s say your room is no longer available for whatever reason and you had to go elsewhere you can still afford it it’s fine. But you should still always focus on worst case scenario rather than best.

At this time I have a Mortgage and that’s it. If I lost my job today the mortgage is still cheaper than rent and I could take a 30-40% pay cut and still be able to survive.

The only reason I say this is because I was in the exact same boat before. Bought stuff for my exact current living situation and stretched myself to the very limit (buying a brand new Challenger SRT8 for $60K at 25 is never a good idea). Living situation changed I just about lost it all but was able to pull myself out of that slump and now I’m happy AND financially stable.

I have a nice house, 2 new vehicles (2013 Fusion & 2013 Escape). I have money to blow on old vehicles (1986 Chevy C20). And have a baby on the way. Life has honestly never been better.

My life between 25 and 28 has done a complete 180. at 25 I was almost 80K in debt and had nothing to show for it. I had a Nice car that was worth half of what I owed on it. and there was simply nothing but struggle from paycheck to paycheck. My paycheck would be gone the day I got it.

3 years later I paid off all the debts bought a sensible car and bought a house that I now have over 60K of positive equity in.

Long story short just don’t make the same mistakes I did.

I gotcha, completely understand where you’re coming from. My goal is to make at least a double, if not 2.5x times payment every month once I’ve reinforced my emergency fund a bit, that way if my living situation changed and I had higher expenses I’d just reduce down to my actual payment. I have embargoed myself from setting foot in a car dealership - barring warranty work from the location I bought my Sentra from - for 5 years, which will make me 25 funnily enough. Of course no one in my life thinks I can hold on to the car for any length of time, but we’ll see.

(Still kind of wondering if I should have gotten that Nissan NV instead. That’d be a veritable Hampton Inn & Suites space wise.)

My current average is 15.7mpg on premium, lol. It’s the price I pay for 400hp.

I have a new Chevy Silverado 1500, 4 door crew cab, 4x4 with a 5.3 liter V8.

I achieved 32.3 mpg over a 25 mile distance while driving 50-55 mph and using a light foot on the gas pedal

That is awesome! Nice. My MPG has settled just under 40 for daily driving.
